Women's Basketball, Central Connecticut State, Breen (24)

Sam Breen (24) avoids a defender to make a basket in the game against Central Connecticut State at the Bryce Jordan Center on Monday Nov. 20, 2017. Nittany Lions defeat the Blue Devils 83-66.

Penn State sophomore forward Sam Breen will no longer be playing for Coquese Washington and the Lady Lions.

Washington announced that the three-point specialist will intend to transfer after she did not suit up in the team’s 80-61 win vs. Jacksonville.

"Sam has left the team and she is exploring her options," Washington said following the game against Jacksonville.

Breen had been a key member of the Penn State bench and had made the game winning free throws in the Lady Lions’ opening night victory against Providence.

The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, native appeared in 22 games her freshman season and in every game this year.

This decision depletes an already injured roster and may hurt the depth of Penn State in the near future.

“We wish her the best with her decision and her opportunities moving forward” Washington said.

Look for senior walk on Kayleigh Semion to take Breen’s reserve minutes.
