Fraternities and sororities raced their hand-constructed chariots down a wet and slippery Fairmount Avenue on Friday afternoon for the Red Bull Chariot Race.

Greek Week Public Relations Overall Chairwoman Marissa Knaus said the chariot race is an event deeply rooted in the greek community.

It’s not just exclusive to Penn State but is a national Greek Week tradition, she said.

In celebration of Multicultural Greek Council Pride Month, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and its 10 member organizations will participate in an Olympics of their own throughout the month of March.

While event dates are pending, a potluck dinner and bone marrow registry are part of the planned festivities.

Vice President for Communications Mayra Leon said each member organization will host an activity for the month, but the council will also host events independently.

Modern hip-hop and a mixture of Asian culture collided in a celebration of cultural heritage presented by the Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) Saturday night.

About 200 guests came to see performances by 13 Asian organizations at Penn State celebrating the 10th annual Asian Awakenings.

More than 50 pairs of eyes zeroed in on Min Cha's feet as she walked across the HUB-Heritage Hall stage last night at the Mr. and Ms. Asian Pacific American (APA) Penn State Pageant last night.

Though she was not crowned Ms. APA Penn State, those in attendance will not only remember Cha (senior-biobehavioral health) as one of the contestants, but as she was introduced last night -- as a student who has the smallest shoe size an adult can have, which is a size three.

Cha was one of seven students who competed in the pageant, sponsored by alpha Kappa Delta Phi sorority and Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity. The contest was a way to show the community the organization's involvement at Penn State and within the Asian community, Kamna Gupta, a member of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, said.

Dayi Lee said that becoming Ms. Asian Penn State has put her in a position to make a real difference.

"I have passion," she said. "I have the motivation to leave my bubble and promote Asian awareness."

Last night, Purav Patel (junior-marketing) and Lee (sophomore-sociology and management) were crowned Mr. and Ms. Asian Penn State 2005.

More than 100 students attended the event, which included cultural performances, held last night.
