First-year seminars will remain a university-wide graduation requirement -- for now.

After three years of research by a subcommittee, the University Faculty Senate voted against terminating the first-year seminar as a graduation requirement. It instead voted to appoint an ad hoc committee to develop solutions to the shortcomings of the current seminar or offer a suitable alternative.

First-year seminars have been a graduation requirement since the 1999 fall semester.
