Carl Nassib (95) puts pressure on Chris Laviano (5) during the game against Rutgers at Beaver Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015. Penn State defeated Rutgers 28-3.

On Monday, Big Ten Network announced that Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib earned the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year award.

Nassib, a former walk-on, leads the FBS with 15.5 sacks and six forced fumbles. His 19.5 tackles-for-loss ranks second in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten.

The fifth-year senior recorded at least one sack in each of his first 10 games of the 2015 campaign. He played a total of five snaps in the Nittany Lions’ final two regular season games of the season after suffering an injury at the end of the team’s loss to Northwestern on Nov. 7.

Nassib was also named to the All-Big Ten first team. Defensive tackles Austin Johnson and Anthony Zettel won second and third team honors, respectively.

Linebacker Jason Cabinda, safety Marcus Allen, and cornerbacks Grant Haley and Trevor Williams won All-Big Ten honorable mention status.

Ben Kline was named Penn State’s Sportsmanship honoree.
