Dressed up in summer

The sundress is to summer as peanut butter is to jelly. You can't have one without the other, and even if you do, something just feels wrong.

A cotton sundress is easy to slip on and looks flattering on almost all body shapes. The best part is that they are versatile enough to look appropriate for the boardwalk, the classroom or the dinner table.

The Kate Dress ($98 from J. Crew) is a modern style mini-dress that comes in Bright Flame and Cabana Blue. Its scoop neck and mid-thigh cut make it a little dressier and more sophisticated, so it's great for pairing with heels for a nighttime look.

A lightweight full length dress provides more coverage, but is still airy enough for warmer weather. The Maxi Tube Dress ($29.50 from Old Navy), for example, looks best with flats or sandals, which don't overwhelm the size of it. Warning: petite girls should steer clear of this size dress!

Classic style sundresses like the Donna Morgan Eyelet Sundress ($158 from Nordstrom) that are updated with bright colors and subtle designs will become staples in a wardrobe because of their ability to stick around through the waves of trends.

The most popular sundresses style this season is "smocked." It's flowy. It's lightweight. It's comfortable. It's all over Hollywood and if you want a trend you've got one. In my opinion the look is a bit sloppy, but if you are really feeling it, follow the examples of Eva Mendes, Nicole Richie and Sienna Miller and pair the dress with a neutral bag or jeweled sandals.

Spring a time to rejuvenate your footwear

Who doesn't love the feeling of the first few days of spring? The sun is a little brighter, the air a little warmer, and our shoes are finally slush-free. It's time to trade in our boots with the fur for new spring styles. And this spring, it's all about color. Candy-colored flats, wedges, and flip-flops like the ones below are sure to put you in a sunnier state of mind.

A favorite of Hollywood stylist Rachael Zoe, the Bandolino Ibigale platform slide ($70, piperlime.com) has a 3" cork wedge heel and its variety of colors make it almost good enough to eat.

These flats from roxy.com ($50) bring a ray of sunshine to any wardrobe and the cut-out details are perfect for warmer weather.

Nine West's Platas ($39.99) have a multi-colored fabric wrap around the ankle for a funky new take for the season.

Steve by Steve Madden's Sirprise ($89.95) will definitely add some va va va voom to your shoe collection this season. It comes in an array of colors, and its faux python fabric definitely makes this shoe a must have for sping.

Frye Ada's Two Piece Buckle Pump ($149) has a "walking friendly heel" which is perfect for long nights in the warmer weather.

How can it be wrong if it feels so right?

In its long, expansive history, fashion has had its fair share of hits and misses. However, despite how off some choices may be, being wrong never felt so right. Its all about what makes you you and if that means wearing giant shoulder pads (though I must advise not to unless you want to look like a giant linebacker) then so be it.
One of my favorite items (which I feel are extremely necessary especially for the sometimes brutal State College weather) are the infamous Uggs. I'm not going to lie, I secretly loathe them. I hate everything from their shape to how easily they can be destroyed ... hate them. However, love's got nothing to do with it when it comes down to their insane comfort and indescribable warmth. Sorry, but even I go against my better judgment for this one.
Oversized sunglasses seem to be universally hated by my population of guy friends, but Miss Richie got it right when she stocked up on giant lenses. The right pair can look absolutely stunning. On the other hand, the wrong shape and color can make you look like a bug or Nicole's "best friend forever." And who knows why, but half-tint sunglasses are a current obsession. The (fashion) world works in mysterious ways.

Call me a hippie at heart, but I've got nothing against Tie-dye done right. The colors are bright and vivid, and when paired right their psychedelic shades, they can give anyone a feeling of Bob Marley-esque nostalgia. Besides, I'm all for a form of fashion that started as a sort of rebellion against the establishment. Far out.
