Cinematic Sensations

A State College summer movie wrap-up

Recent summers have been lackluster in their variety and quality of movies. It appeared as though terrible sequels and laughable remakes had tainted the box offices.

This summer, however, was the comeback of all comebacks for the all-hailed summer movie. Universal Pictures grossed $1 billion on Aug. 13, making this year one of their most successful summers, according to an article from Reuters.

Box office records were broken -- The Dark Knight beat out Star Wars for second place in top grossing movies of all-time, raking in $471.5 million by Aug.18, according to an article from the Houston Chronicle. What is particularly interesting is most of these movies appealed to an audience of all ages.

However, college students may have viewed the box office sensations differently. How do these flicks stack up in State College?

Mike's Movies, 210 E. Calder Way

Rentals for the summer are equally as important as films playing in the theaters because it provides time to catch up on movies people may not have had the time to see during the school year.
