Where: Poodle skirts and hula hoops may not be as popular as they used to be, but the "nifty '50s" are still swingin' at The Rag and Bone, 240 E. Calder Way. The shop is home to real vintage clothing, accessories and home decorations. Each piece is handpicked, restored and available at an affordable price. For a one-time event, some pieces are even available for rent.
The Pick: "I think people come in here and see some really far-out stuff and assume everyone from those decades wore stuff like that, but there are a lot of timeless looks that can be worn every day," said Danny Brumbaugh, an employee at The Rag and Bone.
A simple and flattering '50s style cotton dress is a perfect example. This blue and white belted dress, for $39, has a vintage feel without looking too dated. Keeping with the decade, the dress is accented with a $24 blue '50s glitter cord necklace and white beaded clutch, available for $30.
The store is a great place to catch up with retro trends that are resurfacing, like high-waisted jeans and over-sized clutches.
"There really is something for everyone," Brumbaugh said.
