Dudes sometimes like to feel special, beautiful, too

It is a day when women will be showered with flowers, candy and candlelit dinners from that special someone. And a day when men will add another box of cheap cologne to their collection that grows year after year. It is Feb. 14.

For a commercialized holiday that places its importance on adoring women, what about the men? For the guys who don't want any more cologne, have more boxers than they can count (or don't wear boxers at all) and prefer a Snickers bar to a box of chocolates, what is a girl to do for her significant other on Valentine's Day?

The key is being thoughtful. Yes, ladies, believe it or not, men want you to put a little thought into it.

"I'd like a surprise. Something special," said Stephane Woappi (junior--crime, law and justice) "Maybe dinner at her house surrounded by candles or something thoughtful like that."

So what are some creative ideas that girls can do while staying within a college student budget? A few students with some experiences guy-gifting on V-Day offered their suggestions.

Pamper them"Bake them stuff," Meg Hoover (sophomore -- community environment development) said. "One year, me and my friends decorated a whole bunch of cookies and brownies for our boyfriends. It was simple and cheap but still thoughtful, and they ate them for months."

Making the day all about them might be the way to go.

"Cook dinner for them," Adrian Woodle (sophomore--human development and family studies) said. "Or better yet, do all their laundry for them because they don't ever do it."

Get Sensual

For the more sensual guy, pleasure expert Pamela Luu, owner of Pamela's Passion Shop, www.pamelaspassionshop.com, has the answer.

"Spontaneity is important," Luu said. "Thoughtful gifts are definitely best. Time and effort mean a lot more than money."

Luu's shop offers various items for partners to enjoy with each other. For a special Valentine's Day treat, Luu suggests massage items.

"Nothing beats a good massage for your man," she suggested.

Luu's Web site features massage aids such as the "Caress Me Candle," which allows a woman to pour hot wax that isn't painful on her partner for a massage. A few other items include the "Hot Heart Massager" and the "Nukkles" back massager, which Luu calls the "world's greatest back rub." All of these items can be found on her Web site for fewer than $20.

Get your game on

What about the guys who aren't too into candles and romance? Is your man a sports fan? There's a simple solution.

"I think buying him a subscription to Sports Illustrated or something like that is a great idea," Woodle said. "Or getting him tickets to see his favorite team play or getting something autographed by his favorite player."

For the not-so-picky man, maybe he just wants you to spend time with him doing what he likes to do.

"Girls who play video games are hot," Evan Littman (sophomore--communications) said. "Definitely play video games with your man."

So to all the clueless women out there: Whatever you end up doing with your significant other this Valentine's Day, the key is to remember that the holiday isn't all about you.

"Make us feel special," Littman said. "Sometimes guys want a little special treatment, too."
