It's the time of year to snuggle up in bed, drink hot chocolate and watch some old holiday movie favorites.
This season, State College isn't short of classics: Kids of all ages can indulge in their holiday film cravings at the movies and from their sofas.
"We have classic old films that everyone loves to see on the big screen," said Kristy Cyone, marketing and sales manager of The State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave. "It's more appealing that way."
In addition to showing timeless movies Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life, The State Theatre is also branching out to feature a lesser-known Christmas film, The Bishop's Wife.
"The Bishop's Wife is more of an underground film, if you could call it that," Cyone said. "[Movie] connoisseurs enjoy it ... And film professors say it's a favorite."
The movie industry isn't shy with the season, either.
With recent Christmas movies released, including This Christmas (starring Chris Brown) and Fred Claus (starring Vince Vaughn), it's hard not to find some holiday cheer in theaters.
For those not in the mood to endure the cold weather walking to theaters, reuniting with some old favorites to watch at home may be the answer, just as Dana Pidliskey (sophomore-advertising) said she plans to.
"My favorite is The Santa Clause," Pidliskey said. "I watch it every year; it keeps me laughing every time."
Mike's Movies, 210 E. Calder Way, isn't short on Christmas films either.
"There's stuff that goes as soon as Thanksgiving ends," manager Adam Lindsey said. "There seems to be more comedy movies that are rented."
Lindsey said some popular movies include Scrooge and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, a favorite of Jen Kalivoda (sophomore-marketing).
"It's a classic, and one of the funniest movies of all time," she said.
James Nichols (sophomore-history) is also a holiday movie fan, foregoing the conventional live-action films for another entirely different genre.
"[I like] Charlie Brown, because it's the ultimate classic ... and Muppet Family Christmas," he said. "That's like, the ultimate combination of Jim Henson creations."
Nichols also watches Christmas Vacation every Thanksgiving to get him "in the Christmas mood."
