There's a lot about the Penn Relays for an athlete to get caught up in and lose focus.
One long, enormous grandstand sits on the East Side of the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. It looms like a great wall over the nine-lane track and giant grass field that sits inside.
This outdoor season has started the same way the indoor season did for the Penn State track and field team.

Stepping onto the track at Franklin Field for the first time in high school, Tanner Evak was doe-eyed. Not knowing what to expect, he was overcome by the masses of fans and athletes from across the country.

In Clarence Smith's opinion, atmosphere is what fuels a field athlete. Unlike runners who block out their surroundings, field athletes must feed off of the crowd.

Competing in 10 different events is a hefty task for Anya Uzoh. For the decathlon, he has to be fine-tuned in the running, jumping and throwing events.

Mike Cadau didn't have much time to rest up and recover from a long indoor season. While most of his teammates had time off to recharge for the outdoor season, he still had one of the biggest races of his life still ahead of him.
The calendar may say April 1 and the schedule may say the Penn State track and field team was supposed to be one week into its season by now, but both have been fraudulent to this point.

For some of the Penn State track and field team, namely the athletes that spent spring break in College Station, Texas, this weekend is probably just another week of rest.
