Lions implement knew stretching

On Wednesday afternoons at Penn State men's swimming practice, while most swimmers are in the pool, the distance swimmers are contorting, bending and stretching their bodies and limbs every which way.

Swimmers use time off to sharpen skills

Sweat the small stuff. Penn State men's swimming coach John Hargis said in order for the Nittany Lions to get better, they must work on the little things in swim meets, like coming into and getting out of the walls in order to improve as a team.

The men's and women's teams topped the Mountaineers 145-96 and 74-39 respectively, and the women defeated Colgate 92-21. Both teams are off to fast starts on the season, with a combined 5-0 record.

As soon as senior Dan Fimbianti left the platform and shattered the surface of the water in the 400-yard medley relay, it became clear it was Penn State's race to lose.

Men's swimming defeats St. Bonaventure at home

Pat Schirk had just finished his exhibition in the 200-yard backstroke and leaned forward to check the scoreboard. He raised his hand in victory before climbing out of the pool, having just set a McCoy Natatorium record in his final meet at home.
