When center fielder Evan Chambers arrived in State College, it didn't take long for him to show the Pirates organization why he was worthy of being selected in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

When Evan Chambers stepped up to the plate Thursday night at Medlar Field he had one goal --keep his swing simple.
When Tyler Cox walked off the field in the ninth inning Thursday night, he had done his job.
The State College Spikes pitcher entered the game in the fourth inning of a tie game. He left after five-plus innings the winner in the Spikes' 9-5 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds.
Nineteen players on the State College Spikes roster were drafted or acquired by Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington.

For the second straight night, the State College Spikes barely trailed after seven innings. And for the second straight night, the Spikes self-destructed in the top of the eighth inning.
Standing on the mound is a familiar feeling for former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher John Candelaria. Performing in high-pressure situations is something the left hander became accustomed to while helping the Pirates win the 1979 World Series.

With a runner on first base, Justin Byler didn't waste any time expanding the Spikes 2-0 lead. When pitcher Skyler Crawford threw the first pitch to Byler, the pitcher immediately hung his head as the ball hugged the left field foul pole and left the park.
Since being assigned to State College, Spikes designated hitter Aaron Baker had 104 plate appearances without his first professional home run.
He needed one at-bat Monday night to end that drought.
