Earlier this month, it looked like Penn State students would have to face a significant tuition hike for the Spring 2010 semester.

Changes needed to fill added 800

Let's see ... starting in 2011, 800 new seats for one of the top rated (if not the top rated) student sections in the country: This sounds great on paper. I mean, student ticket sales always sell out pretty quickly. I remember my class's tickets sold out in 45 seconds last year, so it makes complete sense for more student seats.

Athletic department miscues tarnish '09 home experience

This letter is in response to everyone criticizing the student body for not showing up to football games. Let's compare last season, when nobody complained, to this year, when everyone is complaining. Last year, our athletic department did not schedule five noon games against less than mediocre teams. How could you expect the student body to get excited for a season by playing a 2-8 Akron team or 3-7 Syracuse team?

First student fan experience disappoints, plan won't help

In response to the Nov. 19 letter "Students' spotty attendance shouldn't merit more seats," I could not agree more. As a freshman, I was excited about Penn State football games and was sure to show up at least an hour early for every home game this year.

THON's noble mission, work does not grant free license

Regarding the Nov. 18 letter "Annoyance with THON event misguided, understandable," and the previous letters on the matter, it seems it is that time of year again -- that time when those who find fault with actions done in the name of THON are vilified on account of their opinions. While not always the case, it seems that there is an increasing sense of superiority among those who participate in THON. They are of the opinion that their work for the charity exculpates them from blame and ridicule for actions that would otherwise be considered disruptive.

Shifting section a disservice

It's been one of our many traditions here at Penn State: students slowly work their way closer to the center of the football field with each season. For three years, underclassmen look forward to sitting in the coveted 40-yard-line seats during senior year.

Students' spotty attendance shouldn't merit more seats

I keep asking myself why the hell the athletic department would want to add even more student seats to the "Best Student Section in the Nation." First off I had season tickets, and I attended every game, which is something some ticket holders can't say. Also I was in my seat more than an hour before every kickoff, which is also something that most ticket holders can't say.

Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to have traveled to countries such as England, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Costa Rica, as well as many others.
