Massages bring relief to dancers

Even though THON dancers are not allowed to sit down or rest, they are allowed to have a brief session of feet and leg massage.

Dancers have access to massages given by either their moralist or staff in the massage booths to help relieve them of some of the cramps caused by standing for an extended period of time.

In the early hours of Sunday morning there was a long line of dancers waiting with their Moralers to receive these massages.

James Reid (senior-supply chain management) said he used a routine of changing shoes when his feet started to hurt badly. However, he said that stopped being effective after a while so he decided to get the massage.

“The pain kept coming back quickly even when I changed shoes so when my friend told me about the massage I decided to go for it,” Reid said.

Meanwhile Saige Marinoff (sophomore- undecided) was eagerly waiting in line for her turn to receive the massages, which were set up in booths in the hallways.

“I have never gotten a massage in my life and this is the first time I am getting one at THON,” Marinoff said.

Some dancers on the floor however resist the urge to take the massage.

Mark O'Reilly (senior-music) said he knew the pain was only temporary.

"The pain for me will go away once this is done but I know for the families, [who have been affected by cancer] the pain is much more long term." O'Reilly said.
