Long line, cold weather causes discontent
Long wait times and low temperatures caused discontent among those waiting in line to get into THON this morning.
It was 18 degrees outside with icy conditions, according to Accuweather.
Finance chair of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority Carle Frost said she’d been waiting in line for two and a half hours without being admitted in to the Bryce Jordan Center.
Frost (sophomore-accounting) said her sorority had collected more money for THON than all except five other greek organizations. Frost had hand counted money for THON for weeks and felt she deserved a place inside, she said.
“This wait is upsetting and discouraging to everyone who wants to participate in THON,” Frost said.
Richard Skobel told event staff at the entrance that his wife had gotten frostbite while waiting in line for almost three hours to see their son dance.
Event staff, who asked to not be named, told Skobel that the BJC always reaches capacity during THON but never this early in the weekend.
THON public relations staff could not be reached for comment.
Skobel said that he’s been attending THON for years and has never encountered a wait like this years'.
“I love everything this event is about, but this is ridiculous,” Skobel said.
