THON museum honors history

Set up in one of the quieter corners of the Bryce Jordan Center concourse, a THON museum is on display to commemorate the dance marathon's history.

Akiko Miyagi (sophomore-hotel, restaurant and institutional management) said she had not taken notice of something similar last year.

The THON museum features a timeline of key dates from 1973-2013, a book to sign and laptops with powerpoint presentations of photos capturing various THON moments throughout the years.

Some key dates include:

1997-First ever family carnival

1984-Noted for being largest philanthropy of its kind

1995-First female chair selected

Miyagi usually performs for her Penn State dance companies, Peace. Love. Lyrical. and Whiplash, this weekend she's dancing for another reason.

"We had to remind ourselves that we will be dancing for THON," Miyagi said, as she was leaving a written thought at the museum's table.
