Dancers, volunteers donate their hair to Wigs for Kids
Earlier Saturday, dancers and volunteers took to the stage to donate their hair to Wigs for Kids.
Sophia Ku, 9, donated her hair on stage in honor of her brother, Joshua, 15, who has cancer. Ku said that she has been growing her hair for about a year, and now that it's cut, it feels "funny." Hair stylist Pattie Reno said she cut off about 14 inches of Ku's hair.
Ku's mother, Elizabeth, said Sophia was nervous to cut her hair on stage, but they were able to angle her chair so she could see her organizations, which made her feel better. The Ku family is paired with Beta Theta Pi and Orchesis Dance Company.
Reno, has been styling and cutting hair at THON weekend for two years, she said. She got involved because her son, Corbin, is a Lion Ambassador and had told her about the position, she said.
"I keep coming back for the kids," Reno said. "Yesterday I celebrated my 50th birthday and I can't imagine a better way to have spent it than helping the cause."
