THON dancers pick songs
Whether they chose them for sentimental value or to just get the crowd going, the THON 2013 dancers were given the chance to be the disc jockey for maybe a song or two.
Dancers are given the chance to select two songs to play during THON weekend in a survey all dancers take before the weekend.
For Catherine DeLuce, the choice was simple.
"Any Backstreet Boy song because I am a Backstreet girl," she said.
Nothing specific required, just anything "upbeat and classic from the boys," she said.
The Backstreet Boys were her first concert while she was in the first grade. Her aunt was actually able to introduce her to the band, and her aunt is what inspired her to become a 2013 THON dancer.
DeLuce's aunt battled breast cancer for the past eight years and passed away the January of this year. She is part of the reason DeLuce wrote in all capitals on her survey that any Backstreet Boy music would keep her dancing on.
Sean McDermott concentrated more on the overall atmosphere of the Bryce Jordan Center while debating his song selection. His first choice was easy: "Gangam Style" by Psy.
"I want to see everyone in the BJC do it," he said."It'd be hilarious."
For his second choice, he reflected more on the atmosphere of THON: "Good Time" by Carly Rae Jepson and Owl City.
"The lyrics are good for THON," he said, continuing that a lot of the lyrics are what THON is about.
