Petition calls for Corbett to extend voting hours over ID law confusion

A petition on SignOn.org demands that two top Pennsylvania officials extend voting hours and remind poll workers that voters don't need an ID.

The petition, which has more than 5,000 signatures, originated from confusion about the state's new voter ID law. Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson ruled that the law should not be enforced in this election, as previously reported.

Signers want Carol Aichele, Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth, and Gov. Tom Corbett to hold an emergency press conference reminding people that they don't need an ID to vote unless it's their first-time voting, according to the petition. According to the petition, they also want the state officials to extend voting hours to allow anyone who was originally turned away from the polls to go back to vote.

Poll workers in one Pennsylvania county announced to voters in line that they needed an ID to vote, according to the petition. In another county, signs at all of the polling places also state that voters need a state ID, according to the petition. Neither claim is true.
