In the big performance of the day at the women's NCAA swimming championships, the Penn State women's 200-yard medley relay team took honorable mention All-American honors.
Mackenzie Powers, Merritt Krawczyk, Carolyn Fittin and Paige Whitmire finished in the B finals with a time of 1:38.05, good for 12th place overall and honorable mention All-American status.
Gabby Shishkoff took 18th place in the prelims of the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:10.78 seconds. She was followed by Chelsea Weedman in 31st with a time of 4:13.89 and Amy Modglin with a time of 4:16.15, good for 37th.
Merritt Krawczyk finished in 24th place while Melissa Rodriguez took 32nd in the prelims of the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:00.54 and 1:01.04, respectively.
Mackenzie Powers swam to a time of 52.94 in the 100-yard backstroke, good for 21st, one place back from her 20th place showing in 2012.
In the last event of the day for the Lions, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Alyson Ackman, Kaitlin Jones, Caitlyn Karr and Shishkoff took 20th with a time of 7:10.96.
The last day of the championships will feature 200-back, 100-free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay and the 1,650 freestyle.

The first day of the women's NCAA swimming championships came to a close last night, leaving the Penn State women's swim team sitting in 20th place with 10 team points.
The performance of the day was turned in by junior Merritt Krawczyk, who was the only individual Nittany Lion swimmer to advance to a final. Krawczyk set a school record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.17 in the prelims, good for a 14th place finish. She then went on to finish 13th with a time of 1:58.01 in the finals, earning honorable mention All-American.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Paige Whitmire, Carolyn Fittin, Katelyn Miller and Alyson Ackman also advanced to the finals of their event, finishing in 14th place with a time of 1:30.36 and earning All-American status.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Whitmire, Krawczyk, Mackenzie Powers and Ackman finished in 19th place in their event with a time of 3:36.38.
Megan Siverling's time of 4:42.34 just missed qualifying for the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, giving her a 19th place finish in her first swim at NCAAs.
In the other event of the day, Whitmire finished in 19th place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.45 and just missed advancing to the finals.
The events taking place today are the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay.

T.J. Schenkel and Megan Springsteen finished up their performances at the NCAA Zone A Diving Qualifiers at Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Schenkel finished 31st in the one-meter event with a score of 244.50, while a score of 199.45 was good for 42nd in three-meter event.
Springsteen tallied a score of 213.45 on the three-meter board, her fifth best score of the season, good for 30th. On the one-meter board, the junior finished 42nd with a score of 180.35.
Both divers were competing in NCAA zone qualifying for the first time.

This weekend at the Big Ten championships the women's swim team, powered by six broken records, finished third overall.
Senior Paige Whitmire set a school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.74 and won the individual title for the event.
The second record of the day was set by freshman Melissa Rodriguez with a time of 2:10.70 in the 200 breaststroke, she finished sixth overall in the event.
An NCAA "A" cut was claimed by the 400 freestyle relay team of Alyson Ackman, Carolyn Fittin, Katelyn Miller and Whitmire. The team finished second in the event itself.
Ackman and Whitmire were also named first team All-Big Ten, while Fittin, Miller and Merritt Krawczyk were named to second team All-Big Ten.
The overall team title was claimed by Minnesota, with Indiana in second.

Last night at the women's Big Ten swimming championships, the 200 medley relay team of Mackenzie Powers, Merritt Krawczyk, Carolyn Fittin and Paige Whitmire set a new school record with a time of 1:37:97 to finish fifth in their race. The record setting race also gave the Lions automatic qualification for NCAAs later in the month.
Following up the record setting performance of the night before, Chelsea Weedman set a school record in the 200 individual medley this morning.
As of last night the Lions are in third place, with events lasting through Saturday.
