Penn State diving: Schenkel and Springsteen finish up NCAA qualifiers

T.J. Schenkel and Megan Springsteen finished up their performances at the NCAA Zone A Diving Qualifiers at Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Schenkel finished 31st in the one-meter event with a score of 244.50, while a score of 199.45 was good for 42nd in three-meter event.

Springsteen tallied a score of 213.45 on the three-meter board, her fifth best score of the season, good for 30th. On the one-meter board, the junior finished 42nd with a score of 180.35.

Both divers were competing in NCAA zone qualifying for the first time.

Men's swimming in sixth place after first day of Big Ten championships

On Wednesday, the first day of the Big Ten swimming and diving championships, the Penn State men's swimming team set a school record in the 200-medley relay.

Going into Thursday the Lions sit in sixth place out of 10.

The team of Nate Savoy, James Wilson, Sean Grier and Shane Austin finished with a time of 1:25:38, good for a fourth place finish. The previous record was set last year at the Big Ten championships by a team featuring Grier and Austin.

The 200 Medley team also qualified for an NCAA "A" cut.

In the other race of the day, John Hauser, Nick Ankosko, Austin and Matt Salig finished eighth in the 800-freestyle relay.
