Men's volleyball: No. 9 Penn State sweeps Rutgers-Newark
Mark Pavlik’s No. 9 Penn State team must have wanted to get to bed early after traveling to New Jersey.
In a match that took only an hour and saw one lead change, his Nittany Lions (13-3, 7-1 EIVA) swept Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 (2-7, 0-5 EIVA), 25-13, 25-20, 25-19).
The two teams were tied a mere six times as the Lions out hit the Scarlet Raiders, .405-.097.
With the win and a Harvard loss to George Mason earlier in the night, Penn State is now on top of the EIVA standings.
Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Nick Goodell led the Lions with nine kills, and redshirt freshman Matt Seifert added eight.
Fellow redshirt freshman Taylor Hammond recorded 25 assists, and true freshman Zack Parik tallied 10. The Lions finished the match with 42 kills, while Rutgers-Newark had just 24.
Penn State has now won four straight matches after losing to Harvard Feb. 15 in Boston.
The Lions also improved to 4-2 away from Rec Hall this year and will look to add another win tomorrow night against conference foe NJIT at 8.
