Baseball: Penn State's home opener cancelled due to inclement conditions

Even though Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, snow-covered ground and inclement weather has rolled through Pennsylvania this week, causing a snow emergency in State College.

So it's no surprise that the home opener for Penn State baseball, scheduled for Wednesday, has been cancelled. The Nittany Lions (5-11) were slated to face Akron at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with the first pitch at 6:05 p.m.

But with freezing temperatures and snow everywhere the "Boys of Summer" will now have to wait until March 27 for their first home game of the 2013 season.

This is the second consecutive game cancelled due to inclement weather, as Penn State's matchup at Pittsburgh scheduled for today was also called off.

The Lions will resume action on Friday at Indiana for their first Big Ten game of the season.
