Women's hockey drops first of two game set to RIT, 3-1

The Nittany Lions (7-21-2 1-14-2 CHA) fell to RIT (13-13-5 6-6-5 CHA) 3-1 Friday night in the first game of a two-game set in Rochester, N.Y.

Penn State was unable to match the Tiger offensive, which produced a goal in each of the game's three periods, including two powerplay tallies.

However, the Lions did manage to break RIT goaltender Laura Chamberlain's shutout with captain Taylor Gross' powerplay marker just 3:41 before the game's final buzzer.

Junior netminder Nicole Paniccia made 42 saves for the Lions, who managed 22 shots of their own, led by five shots from both Gross and Shannon Yoxheimer.

Penn State, who tied and lost to RIT in late October, will look to get a win and split the weekend series with the Tigers tomorrow night when the puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
