Cardona, Forgue win national of-the-week honors
Defender Brian Forgue was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against Stetson this past weekend, while midfielder Julian Cardona was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week list.
Forgue anchored a Lions' defense that started the season strong Saturday night against Stetson. The Lions shut out the Hatters and limited them to just two shots (both in the second half), with neither of them needing to be saved by goalie Emmanuel Martin. It is the first weekly conference award for the senior defender, who has 49 career appearances for the Lions.
Cardona scored two goals against Stetson, scoring twice in a 35 second span in the second half to seal the 3-0 Penn State win. He made the most of his chances as those two goals were his only shots of the night. The senior registered four goals and two assists in 18 appearances last season.
