Lady Lions to play Miami in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge
While the men’s basketball team drew a weak opponent for their Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Boston College, the Lady Lions again drew a marquee opponent in the matchup, as Penn State announced today it will play Miami.
Miami was one of the best teams in the women’s game last season, finishing second in the ACC with a 26-6 (14-2) record. They were stunned in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season by No. 11 seed Gonzaga.
In last season’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge, the Lady Lions dominated the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Bryce Jordan Center, winning 103-84. Overall, the Lady Lions are 2-3 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, including a win over powerhouse Duke in their first season competing in the event.
The Lady Lions are coming off a year in which they won the Big Ten’s regular season crown and made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before bowing out to Connecticut. Returning nine players, expectations are very high for Coquese Washington’s team.
