Predictions for the field hockey Big Ten Tournament
Thursday November 3 is the start of the No. 9 Penn State field hockey team’s journey to win what they have talked about since the start of the season - the Big Ten Championship Title.
Between freshman Laura Gebhart, redshirt junior Hannah Allison, junior Kelsey Amy, sophomore Lauren Purvis, sophomore Brittany Grzywacz, sophomore Whitney Reddig and senior Casey McCartin they have combined for 50 goals this season. And I’m almost positive that Coach Char Morett will be looking to these goal scorers to get this team a championship here in Happy Valley.
Captains Alex Schlener, Lauren Alloway and Hannah Allison set many goals for the team before the beginning of the season and this was definitely one at the very top.
What a better way to win the championship then in front of their home crowd.
The number three seed Nittany Lions go into their first tournament game against number six seed Northwestern. The last time the Lions (13-5, 4-2 Big Ten) met up with the Wildcats was on Oct. 1 in University Park and the Lions defeated them in overtime 4-3.
Kelsey Amy who is the team’s leading scorer, with 20 on the season and ranked No. 5 in the country for goals per game. But she will be up against Northwestern’s No. 1 Crystal Poland with goals per game, but if anyone is up for the job, my vote is for Amy.
The field hockey reporters, Steve, Stuart and I have made our predictions about this Big Ten Tournament and how this weekend will play out.
