Icers defeat Delaware in second game of series

After losing their first game of the season Friday night at No. 2 Delaware, the No. 1 Icers (11-1-0) went back on the winning track by defeating the Blue Hens (15-1-1) at the Penn State Ice Pavilion, 5-1.

Penn State dominated the shots on net with 47 compared to Delaware’s 25 fired at freshman goalie P.J. Musico. The loss for Delaware marked its first during regulation this season.

Sophomore forward Bryce Johnson got the scoring going for the Icers at 4:05 in the second after a scoreless first period. About eight minutes later junior forward George Saad gave the Icers a two-goal advantage with assists from senior forward Kurt Collins and junior forward Eric Steinour.

Delaware’s lone goal came at the end of the second by senior forward Paul Tropsa making the contest 2-1 as the teams went into the final period. Penn State dominated the third period with two goals by freshman forward Tim Acker and a powerplay goal by Mike McDonagh.

The Icers face Rutgers on Dec. 2 and 3 at the Ice Pavilion for their next matchup.
