Hancock, Longo win weekly awards; Lions move up to No. 9 in polls
For the second week in a row, members of the Penn State women's volleyball team have picked up weekly Big Ten awards.
Freshman setter Micha Hancock picked up her second straight co-freshman of the week award, and her teammate, sophomore libero Ali Longo, won the Big Ten defensive player of the week award.
Hancock combined to have 85 assists, 15 digs, six kills and five service aces in the Nittany Lions' 3-0 sweep of Indiana on Friday and then their 3-1 win over Purdue on Saturday. Hancock shared the award this week with Michigan State's Kori Moster.
Longo did her job in the back row for Penn State over the weekend. After digging 11 balls and having three aces against the Hoosiers, Longo had a career-high 26 digs against Purdue the following night. This award was the first of Longo's career.
Also, after the two weekend victories, Penn State found itself back in the top-10 in this week's AVCA coaches poll. The Lions checked in at No. 9 this week, and you can check out the entire poll here: http://www.avca.org/divisions/division-one-women/poll-11-21-11/.
