Lions fall in overtime

Just 43 seconds after the ball was whisked away from
keeper Erin McNulty for a UCF goal, Hayes struck back with a goal from 15 yards out
to tie the game.
Hayes scored her 10th goal of the season off of an assist from junior
midfielder Christine Nairn who now has six assists this season, the most of any
player on her team.
That wasn't enough though because the Lions still fell to the Knights 2-1.
The Nittany Lions (5-2-0) entered halftime tied after taking five shots
and kicking only one corner kick during the first half. The two teams fought hard
against each other and recorded similar numbers of shots and saves before halftime.
Penn State returned onto the field ready to play. Nairn took a shot on goal
just 1:30 into the second half and then another several minutes later. Fellow
midfielder Jess Rosenbluth also caught Nairn’s fever to take the lead and took two
shots directly after each of Nairn’s.
After 90 minutes of play, the game remained tied. After one overtime period
expired, it was evident that these two teams would fight until the end for the win.
Neither team was able to pull away from the other until the 104th minute
when Nicolette Radovcic of UCF scored by tapping the ball past McNulty for the win.
Penn State recorded 19 shots, nine more than their opponent, but struggled
to find the back of the net. The UCF goalkeeper tallied six saves and kept the Lions’
offense at bay.
Sunday Penn State faces No. 7 UVA Sunday to finish out its trip down south to
Viriginia.
