Penn State 'anticipates schedule update early next week'
Penn State Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson wrote in a text message Friday that Penn State "anticipate[s] having a schedule update early next week," but Nelson did not confirm which teams that would involve.
Earlier Friday, the Orlando Sentinel reported that Penn State and Central Florida will play each other for the next two seasons. In a phone conversation Friday, UCF Sports Information Director Brian Ormiston said "nothing has been officially released about changes to either schedule."
The Sentinel has reported that Penn State and UCF reached an agreement that has the Knights traveling to Beaver Stadium on Sept. 14, 2013 and the Nittany Lions heading to UCF in 2014.
Bill O'Brien and UCF coach George O'Leary worked together at Georgia Tech from 1995-2001, where O'Leary was the head coach and O'Brien was an assistant. O'Leary also served as the head coach of Notre Dame in 2001 and as the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings from 2002-04.
Penn State already had a full schedule in 2013 before adding UCF to its slate, so the Lions will have to drop a game to make room. A home game against Virginia is currently on the calendar for that weekend.
