Parker Cothren commits to Penn State

Penn State recently added a 13th member to its 2013 recruiting class.

Defensive end Parker Cothren switched his verbal commitment from Purdue to Penn State yesterday, according to many recruiting websites. Cothren, who hails from Hazel Green Alabama, is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.

Though he originally pledged to become a Boilermaker, the Nittany Lions were the only other BCS team to offer the 6-foot-5, 265-pound defender a scholarship. Troy, South Alabama and Western Kentucky were among the other schools which showed an interest in Cothren.

Cothren is currently in his senior year at Hazel Green High School, and he becomes the 10th recruit rated as a three-star or better to join Penn State's 2013 class. The only other defensive end in the group, not to be confused with Cothren, is Curtis Cothran from Newton.

Recruits in the 2013 class cannot officially commit until National Signing Day on Feb. 6, 2013.
