FINAL: Nebraska beats Penn State, 32-23

The ball appeared to have broken the plane, and tight end Matt Lehman appeared to have had possession.

But “appeared” wasn’t the same as “confirmed” for the officials in Penn State’s 32-23 loss to Nebraska on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.

In the fourth quarter, Lehman fumbled a 2-yard pass from quarterback Matt McGloin into Nebraska’s endzone. The Cornhuskers recovered for a touchback, stealing six points away from the Nittany Lions.

Penn State’s defense rebounded by forcing a quick 3-and-out against the Cornhusker offense, but a 69-yard punt from Brett Maher pinned the Lions at their own 2-yard line.

McGloin couldn’t get the offense some breathing room, as Nebraska’s pass rush forced him to ground the ball in the endzone. The resulting safety gave the ball back to Nebraska, but it was still a one-possession game for the Lions with over five minutes remaining.

Nebraska’s offense sputtered again, giving Penn State one last drive to come away with the victory. Penn State couldn’t move the ball past their own 25-line. An incomplete pass to Alex Kenney on fourth down with just over two minutes remaining in the game dashed any hopes left for Penn State.
