Tanner Hartman commits to Penn State

Offensive line prospect Tanner Hartman has rescinded his commitment to Maryland and committed to Penn State, according to Lions247. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound offensive tackle is a senior at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va.

Rivals.com rates Hartman as a two-star recruit and reports he runs a 4.9-second 40-meter dash. ESPN gives him two stars and a scout's grade of a 69, ranking Hartman 101st among offensive guards in the country and the 43rd ranked recruit in the Virginia.

Hartman's ESPN scouting report says: “Hartman is a lineman who plays on both sides of the ball in high school, but while he will need developmental time he will likely be a better fit and offer a little more upside as an offensive lineman.”

Besides Maryland, Hartman had offers from Liberty, Richmond and Temple, according to his Rivals profile.

Hartman certainly has ties to Happy Valley, as his high school coach is Frank Rocco, a former Penn State quarterback. Rocco was a part of the 1979 Nittany Lion squad that won the Liberty Bowl.
