DE/OLB Wooten commits to Penn State

Gary Wooten, a former 3-star defensive end at Hialeah Senior High School (Fla.) who passed on college last year, has committed to Penn State, according to Blue White Illustrated.

Wooten will be immediately eligible to play for Penn State after sitting out 2011. He is expected to join the Nittany Lions on Monday pending a physical.

Wooten was hung up on Eastern Michigan and Massachusetts on signing day last year, according to Blue White Illustrated. He chose to hold off from college football after graduating high school because his parents wanted him to stay closer to home.

Wooten is listed at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. He played defensive end through high school, but Rivals pegged him the 75th best outside linebacker recruit in the nation for the class of 2011.

Wooten is the second prospect out of Florida to choose Penn State, along with defensive back Neiko Robinson, who is verbally committed to Bill O’Brien’s staff for 2013.
