Four-star linebacker recruit Anzalone picks Notre Dame
Prized linebacker recruit Alex Anzalone announced Sunday night at Nike’s The Opening that he has committed to Notre Dame.
Anzalone, from Wyomissing, was one of the nation’s most sought-after recruits, earning a four-star rating on Rivals.com. The website has him as their No. 7 linebacker in the country and No. 49 overall player.
He had previously committed to Ohio State, but decommitted in early May. According to the Reading Eagle, Anzalone had previously named a top three of Florida, Notre Dame and Penn State. He announced that he would make his decision public on ESPNU via Twitter.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker announced that he would be enrolling early at Notre Dame during an interview at The Opening.
“With the whole Ohio State thing, I mean, it’s been a very tough process for me, but I’ve had fun with it and I think in a couple of years, looking back I’ll appreciate it even more,” Anzalone said on the broadcast.
According to ESPN, Anzalone decommitted from Ohio State after a man listed on Kentucky’s sex offender registry, Charles Eric Waugh, took pictures with Anzalone and posted them on his Twitter account.
