Maxwell Football Club Creates the Joseph V. Paterno Award

The winningest coach in major college football now has an award to his name.

The Maxwell Football Club announced today it will start the Joseph V. Paterno Award and give it annually to a college football coach. The exact criteria isn't yet finalized, though it seems it will require more than a just a great win-loss record.

"I'm deeply honored," Paterno said in a release. "The Maxwell Club is one of the great organizations nationally for college football and all levels of the game. They have contributed tremendously to our game by recognizing many of the people who have made an impact in football."

Besides this new award, the Maxwell Club also presents many others annually. Two such awards are the Maxwell Award, which goes to the college player of the year and went to Texas' Colt McCoy for this past season, and the Chuck Bednarik Award, which went to Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh as the top defensive player of the year in college football. Both will get their awards tonight at a dinner in Atlantic City.
