Green won't travel to Michigan

Penn State running back Stephfon Green won't travel with the team to Ann Arbor, Mich., coach Joe Paterno said Thursday on Nittany Lion Hotline.

"Green won't play,'' Paterno said, adding, "We're not taking him on the trip.''

Green, the Nittany Lions' second-leading rusher, left last Saturday's game against Minnesota with an ankle injury and did not return.

The redshirt sophomore was listed as "possible" on the team depth chart released on Monday.

No. 13 Penn State visits Michigan this Saturday.

With Green out, starter Evan Royster is expected to get more carries Saturday. Royster is coming off a season-high 23-carry, 137-yard performance against the Golden Gophers and said Tuesday he felt fine after dealing with an illness earlier in the season.

Sophomore Brandon Beachum is the Lions' No. 3 running back and will likely get extra carries, along with redshirt junior Brent Carter.

Paterno also said Thursday that linebacker Mike Zordich is moving to fullback, and that senior defensive tackle Tom McEowen will redshirt this season if he can improve academically.

A traditionalist, he would like nothing more than to see Joe Paterno throw it back to his Brooklyn days and install the single-wing offense this season.

Matt Brown is a senior majoring in journalism and is the Collegian's football editor. He previously covered the Penn State men's basketball, baseball and women's soccer teams. While a fan of most sports, he thinks the 14 Saturdays of the college football season are the best 14 days of the year and all 34 bowl games are worth watching.
