Arrington fuels rumors surrounding Sports Cafe

Former Penn State All-America linebacker Lavar Arrington was spotted hanging outside Sports Café and Grille, 244 W. College Ave. today.

The Sports Café has been closed since December, and Arrington wouldn't say whether he had any business interest in the bar, repeatedly saying "I don't know."

But he did tell Collegian reporter Kevin Doran to "keep your eyes peeled."

"What is it, May?" Arrington said. "You might start seeing something happen in the next month or so."

Internet message board rumors have had Arrington named as an interested party in taking over the bar in some capacity since the fall.

Arrington's NFL career has been plagued by injury, having played only three full seasons of his seven in the league. His last season was with the New York Giants in 2006, but it ended when he tore his Achilles tendon. Following the season, he suffered severe injuries in a motorcycle accident and has not played since.

Peril-loux

ESPN.com is reporting LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been kicked off the team after he failed a drug test.

Perrilloux -- who was listed second on the team's depth chart behind Matt Flynn -- led a troubled career as a Tiger. He was suspended three times before LSU head coach Les Miles dismissed him early Friday. Perrilloux was expected to start for the defending national champions after Flynn was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in last weekend's NFL draft.

LSU has five other quarterbacks currently listed on its roster. Three of which are freshmen and none have played in a game for the Tigers. The longest tenured quarterback is junior Andrew Hatch.

Two more verbals

The Nittany Lions received a pair of verbal commitments for the class of 2009 this week.

On Tuesday, Malcolm Willis, a 6-foot-1, 185-lbs. safety from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Md. gave his pledge to Penn State. Willis has been clocked at 4.65 in the 40-yard dash and was a second-team all county and honorable mention all-conference at safety. He also lined up at quarterback for Lackey and was a first-team all-area signal caller. He'll join a pair of Lackey grads - A.J. Wallace and J.B. Walton - in Happy Valley. Maybe they'll be able to convince him to shorten his name to two initials.

Then during a Wednesday afternoon press conference in Philadelphia, St. Joe's Prep offensive lineman Mark Arcidiacono announced his decision to play for Penn State. The 6-foot-5, 285-lbs. offensive tackle turned down offers from Florida, Notre Dame, West Virginia and Rutgers to come to Happy Valley.

The Roster

Mug

Matt Fortuna is a sophomore majoring in journalism and a football reporter for the Collegian. He has previously covered the men's tennis, soccer and basketball teams. A traditionalist, he would like nothing more than to see Joe Paterno throw it back to his Brooklyn days and install the single-wing offense this season.

Mug

Nate Mink is a sophomore majoring in journalism and a football reporter for the Daily Collegian and a 5-foot-10 sesquipedalian from Allentown who has tried to grow facial hair for 20 years. Sadly, he has been unsuccessful thus far. He is anxious to get a new driver's license in September and hopes the bartenders at Zanzibar in Ann Arbor believe he's 21.

Mug

Wayne Staats is a junior majoring in journalism and history and is a football reporter for the Collegian. He previously covered the baseball and women's basketball teams. He never made it far playing competitive football, unless Nerf football in grade school counts.
