The situation was familiar but irksome, and one a seemingly ill-prepared Penn State team notoriously found itself in this season's well-hyped games.

Jan. 1: Lions tear down Wildcats
in Outback Bowl

Penn State found a way to do what few other teams have done -- stop Kentucky's "Air Raid" offense. That, in addition to four Travis Forney field goals, helped the Nittany Lions to a 26-14 Outback Bowl victory New Year's Day at Raymond James Stadium.


Dec. 11: Lions settle for bowl; opponents overjoyed
Two different paths, which were thought to lead to much different destinations at the season's outset, will converge at 11 a.m. Jan. 1 in the Outback Bowl when No. 20 Penn State plays Kentucky at the new Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
