One of the National Governors' Association's main topics at the 2001 meeting in Rhode Island will be a study of higher education, Maryland Gov.. Parris Glendening said.

Alan Greenspan cannot see the future. But participants at the National Governors' Association annual meeting Tuesday watched Greenspan as if they were seeing a fortune teller read from a crystal ball.

Monday night's "A Taste of Pennsylvania" showed the governors that Happy Valley could hold its own with Silicon Valley.

President Clinton addressed a wide variety of topics in his address to the National Governors' Association yesterday at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
  • Clinton gets true taste of campus during visit

  • Before police officers put him in a choke hold and dragged him inside, Justin Leto stood defiantly on a balcony on the front of Osmond Lab, with duct tape partially covering his mouth and a gas mask hanging from his neck.

In front of an audience of students, activists and curiosity seekers, Ralph Nader, legendary consumer advocate and presidential candidate, made a rousing speech via telephone denouncing the National Governors' Association and corporations.

The mental images that South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges evoked were nothing new or shocking — Big Brother and Internet privacy are usually connected.

Saturday's Evening Under the Stars, held on a barricaded South Allen Street, gave students and local citizens an opportunity to see and speak with governors and state officials from around the country.

    From Monday, July 10, 2000

By virtue of the protest march down College Avenue yesterday afternoon, it appears the National Governors' Association isn't the only group trying to influence the lives of local and national citizens.
  • Police arrest execution opponents

  • In the days leading up to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Ridge keeps coming up as a possible running mate for presidential candidate George W. Bush, governor of Texas.

In his second speech to the National Governors Association, retired Army Gen. Colin Powell used his national profile to focus attention on his private efforts to support programs for children.

President Clinton plans to make his second visit to State College today. But don't look for him to do any shopping downtown or mingling with the locals. Clinton's one scheduled stop is the National Governors' Association annual meeting.

Featuring a blend of policy, politics and privacy, the 92nd National Governors' Association annual meeting runs through tomorrow at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
