Thon shatters record
Penn State students broke several money records again this year, raising $2,530,142.48 overall for the Four Diamonds Fund at the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

    Feb. 20: Friends forever
    The 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon means different things for different people. For families that benefit from the marathon, it means encouragement and hope.

    Feb. 19: Thon kicks off
    The noise from hundreds of excited students rumbled through Rec Hall last night as dancers, committee members, families and spectators awaited the kickoff of the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

    With the help of high-tech treatments at the Hershey Medical Center, Robert Hershey has practically beaten the cancer. And thanks to the Four Diamonds Fund, his family hasn't had to pay a cent toward the medical costs.

    After a year and a half of living with cancer, David Lys is going to dance in the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.



    Gearing up for Thon

    Feb. 19: Another 48 hours
    With the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon starting at 7 p.m. today, dancers have been making last-minute preparations in anticipation of the 48-hour event.

    Feb. 9: Rec Hall helps Thon dancers, spectators
    Poised to draw the biggest crowd of its 27-year history, the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon will take place in Rec Hall for the first time.


    Feb. 18: High schoolers start tradition early with mini Thon
    Students at Central Dauphin High School, near Harrisburg, hold an annual mini dance marathon, which donates its proceeds to the Four Diamonds Fund.

    Feb. 16: Dancers may lag in classes
    With all the confusion and excitement surrounding the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, from canning weekends to the actual 48-hour event, keeping up with schoolwork can be a difficult task.

    Feb. 12: Competition in Thon fundraising an added motivator for greeks
    Even though the primary focus of the 1999 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is battling pediatric cancer, being a top money earner is important for some greeks.
