[ Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 ] The floor of Rec Hall trembled with howls and applause from dancers and onlookers as Thon organizers announced the 2003 Dance Marathon totals last night.
Sean Crosby, Thon chair for Penn State Hazelton Campus, admitted he'd found a way to tell time in the middle of an entirely clock-free Thon. Feature Photos
Dancers in the 31st annual Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon broke a record this year as they became the first group to learn the entire line dance in 68 minutes, beating last year's time by 11 minutes. There are many jobs that happen behind the scenes at the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, and some volunteers had duties that extended well beyond doing the line dance.
Five middle school students and their counselor drove nine hours this weekend from a much warmer, drier North Carolina to see the inspiration for their own mini dance-a-thon. For some student organizations, Thon is an opportunity to get involved with campus activities -- but not without a lot of hard work and a hefty price tag. For some newcomers, the revelry in Rec Hall was overwhelming and astonishing when they first stepped onto the floor of this weekend's Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.
