After more than 48 sleepless hours, yesterday was the first day for many Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon dancers to catch up on much needed sleep.

Bringing in $3,609,830.07, this year's Thon raised nearly half a million dollars more than last year.
Thon dancers break record for largest hug

The back of Merritt Swallow's shirt read "Dancin' 4 Liz," referring to the name of the child her sorority — Theta Kappa Pi — was sponsoring.

In a crowded and busy hallway at Rec Hall, it seemed Chelsea Dalton greeted every other person that walked by with an enthusiastic hug or high five.

Taking out trash and cleaning toilets are not usually items found on a student's "to do" list over the weekend, but during the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, hundreds of students signed up to do just that.

Yellow shirts speckled the dance floor this past weekend at the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. From the Rec Hall bleachers, they added an element of flair, mixing with the brightly colored beach balls, funky hats and crazy tube socks.

The Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon just keeps breaking records. The newest — the world's largest hug.

The searchlights outside Rec Hall drew their beams across the evening sky, heralding the start of the 2001 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

Break in your dancing shoes and practice the line dance — the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon 2001 is tonight.

It's not something she tries to hide now, but it doesn't usually come up in conversation either.

For the past three years, Penn State's Fayette campus has been recognized for raising the most money by a non-University Park campus in the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

Wigs for Kids and Locks of Love, both organizations that collect hair through donations, are using the charitable gifts to make wigs for children who have lost their hair during cancer treatments.

The Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, "Within Reach," is reaching beyond the students of Penn State to the downtown businesses of State College.

This weekend, visitors at the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon will get the opportunity to help orphaned children in the Dominican Republic as well as children with cancer.

As Penn State gets closer and closer to hosting the next Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, fraternities and sororities are not the only ones gathering together to finalize preparations.

Rain, sleet, snow or hail, one can be sure to see Penn State canners standing on their respective street corners and sidewalks four weekends out of the year.

Students dancing to this year's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon theme "Within Reach" will not find a resting place within reach for at least 48 hours.
