Assistant copy desk chief | SPRING 2003 Renée Petrina is the assistant copy desk chief at the Collegian this semester. She is a junior double-majoring in journalism and political science. Renée started at the Collegian in her first semester and has loved it ever since. This is her fourth semester as a reporter. In the past, she covered campus diversity issues. As administration reporter, she covers both university and state administrative activities that affect Penn Staters. Aside from her reporting, Renée is a Scholar Assistant for the Schreyer Honors College this year. Thus this has become the year of dream jobs: writing news copy and helping out fellow students. In what little free time she makes, Renee likes to spend time with people close to her and enjoy life in central Pennsylvania. Renée joined the Penn State family after spending most of her life in and around Richmond, Virginia. She's very proud of her hometown, and don't poke fun if she drops into a Southern accent. "Ya'll" is an essential word in her vocabulary, but don't let that scare you. In the future, Renée hopes to spend some time gaining experience in communications internships, like a semester in Washington, D.C., as a print journalism intern. She plans to return to University Park after that work experience to finalize her majors and possibly pursue a simultaneous Masters degree while also writing an Honors thesis (or two). If you hadn't already guessed, she is quite arguably a workaholic. Renée loves to hear from Collegian readers, and feedback is very important to her beat.
