I completely agree that we must cut ties with Adidas. Who wouldn’t?
So why is Nike still one of the top brands we wear to represent our school? They are notorious for their treatment of workers.
Nike has even acknowledged the abuse that takes place under its watch, but officials claims that there is little they can do to stop it.
They have tried to set codes of conduct for factories, but officials claim that local laws prevent them from carrying these out. I feel that these codes are simply a way for Nike to cover themselves, without actually trying to implement them. With their power in the market — supported by a recent $100 million contract with golfer Rory McIlroy — it’s hard to imagine Nike’s inability to control their factories.
While Nike is reluctant to change, we as Penn Staters must rise above and cut off Nike as well.
