Two Penn State students charged in connection with Paige Raque case waive hearings

Two of the eight Penn State students charged with furnishing alcohol to minors in relation to an incident involving Penn State cheerleader Paige Raque, who fell five stories from a Calder Commons apartment window on Oct. 13, waived their preliminary hearings early, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Julie Hannan, 19, and Madeline Miller, 19, waived their rights to a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday and now face a possible trial for the charges filed against them.

Tempest Hourston, 21; Megan Markovitz, 21; Adaire Robinson, 21; Alexandra Hipple, 20; Brooke Piccione, 20; and Alyssa Duffy, 19, are still scheduled for their preliminary hearings at 8:30 a.m. today at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

Hourston, Markovitz, Duffy and Miller were members of the Penn State cheerleading team before being removed from the team prior to charges being filed on Jan. 29, as previously reported. Piccione, a member of the Penn State Lionettes dance team, was also removed from the dance team Jan. 29 for a violation of team rules.

Hannan and Miller are scheduled for formal arraignment at 2 p.m. March 27 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

Raque fell from a fifth floor window in October and suffered a brain injury and broken pelvis. She is currently recovering from her injuries at her home in Kentucky.
