Arts in Review: Oscar fashion faux pas

Every year, people around the nation, and some around the world, stop what they are doing to witness a magical event incomparable in the media industry. The Oscars acts as a night for celebrities to exhibit their fame, and for us mere mortals to feel otherworldly.

The best way this is done is through fashion. Jennifer Lawrence stole the red carpet with her chic “Swan Lake” rendition of a cotillion ball gown. Quvenzhane Wallis captivated viewers with her navy blue princess dress and

innocent puppy purse.

These ladies were royal and every lady wants to feel royal. Through the Oscars we all are able to get a slice of the golden pie.

But sadly, in this day and age, no one cares about who rocked the red carpet, or who looked beautiful. People love to accuse and the people have spoken: here are the top five destroyers of the princess fantasy that is the Oscar red carpet.

5. Reese’s Pieces ‘Boring’ Cup

Reese Witherspoon’s Louis Vuitton ensemble was not simple or refined as people would believe, but boringly basic. There is a thin line between elegant simplicity and dull plainness –– and Witherspoon crossed it.

4. Can you say, ‘Raggedy?’

Kelly Rowland tried to go for a sleek and chic look but destroyed her appearance in the process. Her dual asymmetrical black and white ensemble was beautiful. But the hair ruined the flawlessness that was her look. Her hair looked like the stereotypical hairstyle that is done at the corner neighborhood salon. It was too edgy and too much. No Kelly. Stop it.

3. Signs I’m Getting Old

Renee Zellweger looked under the influence or perhaps tired. Either way, glamour was not the word that would have been associated with her that night.

2. Just…Failure

Jennifer Aniston’s dress looked great! Jennifer Aniston herself? Not so much. Her hair was ridiculously boring and flat. It seemed like it could use a few cycles through the wash. Her makeup was nothing short of mediocre and it just wasn’t her night. It looked like Aniston merely brushed her hair and applied some basic CoverGirl and arrived for the show. Why waste a beautiful red dress?

1. I see London, I see France

Anne Hathaway looked flawless and elegant, as usual, in her sleek peach dress, pixy cut and pearls. But I could see her chest’s “externals,” if you know what I mean. Cover up, Hathaway.

The people of the world know that these five amazing talents might not understand the rules of fashion, and they might have ruined some 9-year-old’s fantasy to one day make it on the red carpet like Quvenzhane Wallis.

Despite their fashion mishaps of the night, these iconic celebrities are amazing at what they do. We forgive you.
