Last year I knew that it was time to act.
Penn State just went through the worst scandal in school history.
We had a unique opportunity to share with the world that we are more than a football program. I didn’t want one weekend to ruin the reputation that countless alumni and community members helped to achieve.
I am glad to see that students and citizens alike realize the destructive nature State Patty’s has and their willingness to combat the problems. Students: The community is not out to get you. They want you to enjoy your time in State College. Be willing to work with them. Positively contribute to the community you are a part of. Creating culture comes natural to Penn Staters.
We create things like the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. Have fun in a way that is not damaging to yourself, your community, or more importantly: your future. Community: It’s a “we” problem, not a “them” problem. Initiate dialogue.
Become part of the solution. Engage the students in a positive manner. Join in on the countless volunteer activities happening all over State College this weekend. I am excited to see what will happen this weekend. When students step up for the common good, amazing things can happen.
