Students not involved should consider joining dance marathon next year

This letter is in response to the article titled “Some wary to voice criticisms of THON in face of ‘THON Culture’ ” published Feb. 15 that highlighted those who are not part of the THON culture.

I know that those students are also involved in great organizations, and no one is accusing them of not having heart.

I am not a part of the Interfraternity Council/ Panhellenic Dance Marathon and really just learned about it within the last year.

I do, however, have two daughters and could not imagine hearing the words “your child has cancer.”

While other organizations raising money for cancer is certainly a worthy cause, THON fills a gap that was desperately needed. THON provides funds for treatment and research that is not provided by other organizations.

I am proud to attend graduate school at a school that has such a prominent organization.
